UK-based artist DEFSET is presenting its second album, ‘OK, Accept, Continue’.
‘OK, Accept, Continue’ LP is a deeply personal 10 tracker, DEFSET wrote as a way to navigate the grieving process. The album touches on addiction, anger, depression, hope and acceptance, with the music serving as a form of creative expression, offering distraction and relief from grief’s intensity.
‘Ok, Accept, Continue’ “plays like a diary of the particular stages I experienced and how they affected me and the way I interacted with the world. Zooming out and viewing the whole album as a single work, it’s about struggle, recovery and hope.” – DEFSET
Following on from his debut album ‘Proximity’ in 2021, it’s clear that the UK based artist has been developing his sound and for his sophomore album there is more of an organic tone to the music, I needed to be more physically in contact with this work so many of the sounds are sampled drums, live instrumentation or found sounds. Collaborations with MC Spyda and Jally Kebba Susso add a layer of humanity and embodiment that I really felt was necessary to capture the feeling of the human experience of loss and recovery.
Music holds spiritual and cultural significance, helping individuals find meaning and hope and a significant cultural theme throughout the ‘Ok, Accept, Continue’ album is DEFSET’s connection to Gambia. The artist’s mother was based there, running a charity and “half way through writing the album I travelled to West Africa where my mum lived for some time. Soaking in the music and culture helped me put things into perspective and gave me motivation and hope that things would get better. Tracks written after that visit are noticeably more upbeat and hopeful.”
