Greta Levska takes dancers to ‘Club Jupiter’ courtesy of her fresh new three-track EP on Get Physical Music.

Lithuanian-born, London-raised and now Ibiza-based Greta Levska has a richly multicultural background that feeds into the music she makes and plays. She has got a wealth of new music lined up for this year on Shall Not Fade and Poker Flat as well as this one, while she is also resident each and every Monday at Gorgon City & Danny Howard’s Amnesia Ibiza residency this summer as well as playing further dates for the world-renowned club’s own in house party Pyramid.

She opens up with ‘Why You In The Club’, a full-fat electro cut with nimble bass notes darting about the mix under tough drums. Cosmic synths spray about to bring turbulence to this most arresting of tracks. The excellent ‘Baby Mammas Checks’ has hints of electro sleaze to its chilly metallic drums. Icy hits add to the future feel as filtered vocals bring the attitude and frosted bass finishes this twisted full-body workout in style. Last of all, ‘Ice Cold’ is yet another different vibe, this time riding a deeper electro groove through the stars with melancholic robot voices and sleek synths flying by. It’s a widescreen and cinematic cut that brims with late-night atmosphere.

Greta Levska’s ‘Club Jupiter’ EP offers a trio of terrific club sounds, each with its own personality.

We are presenting the first track ‘Why You In The Club’.

Three years after Reno Wurzbacher’s entry into the series, Cook Strummer now offers up his own ‘Berlin Gets Physical’, a collection of all-new and exclusive tracks.

This collection will come digitally but also as two different vinyl versions – one will be available publicly, the other is a special edition produced together with the Belgian gallery, Mazel Galerie. The cover art for it was designed by Lyon-based street artist Brusk. The original will be auctioned by the same gallery in Brussels.

Berlin-based, Belgium-born Strummer has been a Get Physical associate for several years. He has dropped various singles including the standout ‘Rising’ which also featured on the Words Don’t Come Easy series, and always crafts the perfect mix of rhythm and melody with plenty of hints of his homeland’s famous cold wave sound. He often uses his own voice, drum machines, synths and guitars in his music, and since his debut album in 2018 on LOK Recordings, he has had high profile support from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Adam Port and Âme. This summer, he dropped ‘Atmosphere’ on Obsolet Records which proved another successful outing and now ‘Berlin Gets Physical’ finds him digging deep into the famous city’s freshest and most essential house sounds across 15 well-sequenced tracks. This on point collection is an authentic snapshot of the contemporary underground sound of Berlin.

We are presenting the first track ‘For Berlin’, which kicks off with a dark and edgy vibe, gothic vocals and tense drums. Glitchy hits and blurting synths add to the prickly atmosphere and immediately lock you in.

Monkey Safari are presenting their long-awaited ‘Body Language Vol. 24’. The 18-track affair is a deep dive into their own musical output as well as a testament to their alluring DJ style.

German pair Monkey Safari have become Get Physical mainstays over the years. In 2022, they released a wealth of teaser tracks from this mix with each one showcasing a different side to their sound. After more than a decade of EPs and LPs on their own Hommage label they are still mining new musical ground and their 2021 album ‘Love Will Set U Free’ was the latest testament to that. This new mix is a further superb showcase of their signature DJ style and seductive musical output.

The mix is a broody one that takes you into a mesmeric world of classy, musical house. It is packed with originals and remixes from Monkey Safari starting with the alluring bell sounds and vocal cries of ‘Ceremony’ before moving on through the likes of their spine-tingling afro house remix of Fluida and then a lithe and airy remix of BLOND:ISH. After classy Monkey Safari material like ‘Universal Love’ and ‘W’ is a remix of George Morel’s classic ‘Let’s Groove’ that updates the tune with a fresh modern edge.

The disco depths of DJ Pierre feat. Chic Loren’s reworked classic ‘I Feel Love’ is followed by standout exclusive single ‘Hausch’ which lifts the spirits on a wave of positive synth work, upbeat drums and summery vibes that are sure to get plenty of plays this summer and beyond. A faultless run of recently released singles including ‘Kami’, ‘Light Of Day’ and ‘Hi & Low’ then round out this most exquisite and sensitive selection.

‘Body Language Vol. 24’ is another landmark entry into this long-running and influential DJ mix series.

We are presenting Monkey Safari’s remix of the track ‘Koma Kobache’ from Djuma Soundsystem & Westerby.

Get Physical‘s Roland Leesker returns to the label with a storytelling new single ‘The Demon At Rashomon’ that comes with a remix from Confidential Recipe.

This is Leesker’s second outing on the label this year after February’s timeless ‘Haus Musik’ package. That was the latest in a small but carefully curated series of releases from the artist who has seen recent remixes from Scan7, Terrence Parker and Francesco Tristano and never fails to infuse classic sounds with new school ideas.

This new single is informed by a Japanese legend of the Heian Period in the late 10th century. Ibaraki-doji, a notorious Oni, resided at Rashomon Gate in Kyoto and harassed people who tried to pass through the gate until a heroic samurai named Watanabe no Tsuna subdued the creature. The battle raged on until Tsuna drew his katana and severed the arm of the demon. A few days later, an elderly woman claiming to be Tsuna’s aunt came to visit him and asked her nephew to recount how he fought with the oni. Tsuna mentioned that he had Ibaraki-doji’s severed arm in his possession and his aunt was curious to see it. When he revealed the arm, his aunt unveiled herself as Ibaraki-doji in disguise. She grabbed the arm and escaped from Tsuna’s mansion. However, even after retrieving the arm, Ibaraki-doji never returned to dwell at Rashomon Gate again.

The ‘The Demon at Rashomon’ single musically depicts this tale and comes with epic artwork that brings the story visually to life courtesy of Rio based artist Paula Lles. The record has a body-popping, electro-infused and breakbeat-driven groove that will fire up any dance floor. The bass is big and powerful and the turbulent synths, acid squelches and yelping vocals all bring a battle-ready vibe. It makes for a unique and high-impact tune from Leesker who once again co-produced this with Neil Barber at Hot Kitchen Studios in Berlin.

Venezuela’s pioneering rave ambassador Confidential Recipe remixes and brings with him a fresh mix of tech, electro and house. He has landed on labels like Rekids and RSPX and shows why here. His take is a warm, big and bouncy acid cut with silky drums and vocal yelps adding extra intensity to the groove.

We are presenting the Confidential Recipe Remix.

After an exciting build-up featuring key EPs from it, DJ One Five now unveils his full and fantastic ‘Detroit Gets Physical Vol. 1’ compilation album featuring tracks from Gino, Biz, Laurent Chanal, Roland Leesker, GPU Panic and himself, and a remix from Jon Dixon.

DJ One Five grew up in the Motor City, exposed to real house and techno from a young age. A 2008 move to Atlanta, another house hotbed, led to a residency at DJ Pierre’s Wildpitch club and tour dates around the US. DJ One Five has since returned to Detroit and has joined the Afro Acid team with DJ Pierre and become a leader for the next generation with releases on the Jack Trax label and now Get Physical. On this excellent compilation, he draws together the tracks and artists that best represent the Detroit sound that is so revered around the world.

‘Detroit Gets Physical Vol. 1’ is an authentic snapshot of the current Detroit house sound, compiled by someone who knows it best.

We are presenting the second track, the silky, disco-tinged loops on the house track ‘Dam I Wrong’ from Gino.

We speak to the revered Germany producer and composer about his latest EP and why he’s super happy he’s never had a big hit

Andreas Henneberg’s music sits somewhere between techno, minimal and house and over the course of his 30 plus year career has released with Voltage Musique, Katermukke, Get Physical, Bedrock, Desert Hearts, Heinz Music and Systematic Recordings, as well as of course on his own SNOE.

Andrea helms a critically acclaimed philharmonic live concert concept called Synth Happens which gained attention worldwide and further established himself as a genre transcending and multifaceted musician capable of blending styles in an innovative fashion. He combines his own electronic music with a full orchestra, the live show of which has been performed at opera houses all over the world.

His latest release is ‘Failsafe’ EP: two tracks of driving, progressive house with some lovely melodic flourishes that lands on Sacha Robotti’s Slothacid label later this month and further establishes him as an artist of quite extraordinary talent.

As someone who is so heavily invested in the live performance aspect of your music, how difficult has the pandemic been for you, and have you taken any steps to compensate for the lack of in person shows?

Of course the whole situation is the absolute worst case for the whole live-music industry. Very depressing, unsatisfying and unfair. But hey, lot of good stuff came with it as well. Seeing the family more, having a relatively normal sleep cycle and lot’s of time to hit the studio for example.

I have always been a studio guy. I love to make music and creating random stuff. I could do this for hours, days, weeks. So I did… which makes me even happier that everything seems to slowly get back on track again. I’m ready!

Your career is close to 25 years and still going strong… in that time, what would you say is the single biggest change you’ve seen in the industry, for better or worse?

Like in every industry it’s a constant re-invention of the wheel. Sometimes it’s round and smooth, sometimes it rolls like a square. Change is good to keep everything interesting and alive. Technology in general made huge steps within the last few decades and making music has never been easier and cheaper than today. This gives everybody the chance to express themself and a lot of incredible talents came to light due to this. And a lot of crap of course.. It’s the few diamonds in between which keep the whole industry going and going. There is no better or worse.

You’ve run a lot of labels over the years, what has been the most rewarding thing about your time invested with them?

The community around the label. The other artists, the designers or even the business partners. The great thing as a small independent label is the direct contact to everyone involved.

I love the interaction with other artists to make something happen together and to support each other. On the other hand it’s a great way to express myself when not on stage. I just love music.

And the most challenging?

When I started making music I had the same situation like every new producer. Nobody wants to sign my tracks. Nowadays you just do your own label and release it. You could setup a label, distribution and everything you need in less than one hour.

When I started my first Label Voltage Musique there was no Beatport, Spotify or even mp3s. We all played with turntables and as a label you needed to press and distribute vinyl somehow.

It was expensive and very hard to find a distribution partner to spread the records to all the shops worldwide. No clue how, but we did it. The label survived 18 years at the end. Together with my partner Beth Lydi I’m successfully running the label SNOE at the moment.

Are record labels still as important in 2021 as they were when you started making music?

No. They are not. And thats not necessarily a bad thing. On Spotify or iTunes you can’t even search for a label anymore. Artists can release their music directly without a record label in between. That’s great for the artists and a quick way to publish music by yourself. Maybe it will be the death of indie-record labels at some point. I’m okay with that. So.. Let’s re-name the record label into Homebase, Clique or Artist Collective. Artists want to belong somewhere and identify with a community, well known for certain styles, sounds or events. That’s important..

Your latest EP landed on Slothacid recently… how did you hook up with the label and Sacha for this release?

I’m born in Berlin. Sacha Robotti is born in Berlin. Funnily enough we’ve meet in Hawaii, Costa Rica or California but never in Berlin. We both love the same kind of electronic music, we are friends and we respect each other. No clue why we didn’t worked together earlier. Now we did and I’m more than happy about it.

Your music always sits between various different genres, and that’s no exception on this EP. For us there seems to be a strong focus on melody though… do these usually come out of your imagination, or is it more a case of playing around and seeing what works?

Actually I’ve never been a big fan of big melodies or dramatically harmonic breaks. It’s the groove which gets me when I’m in the studio or on stage. I could reduce everything to drums, percussion and hi hats and would be happy with it. I always hit the studio without any plan. It comes how it comes and it depends a lot on the current mood, time of the year or the impressions from the last shows.

I also have different projects and names to publish different genres of electronic music without confusing your followers and fans. The Glitz, Hennon or Cascandy to name a few.

Do you think in terms of career trajectory? Or do you just focus on making the best music you can?

I’m doing music since 25 years now and my biggest fear is to accidentally write a hit. I can’t say this enough. “I’m very very happy that I never landed a big hit”. Because I am still allowed to make the music I want without being reduced to that one track. No expectations or the pressure to deliver the follow up hit single whatsoever. My agent told me 20 years ago, just do your thing. If it’s good, you will be seen and if you continue you will be successful. He was damn right..

What else do you have coming up?

October and November I’m finally touring the US again. Chicago, Miami, Austin, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Las Vegas. I’m also constantly working on my orchestra show Synth Happens. We are planning a few of these concerts in Germany next year.

Finally, what one piece of advice or mantra did you hear early in your career that has either proved useful, or to be complete nonsense?

If you wanna call yourself an artist, don’t focus on the hype, the success or the money. Focus on your skills and improve them. It’s paying back at some point.

‘Body Language Vol. 23’ is the much anticipated new compilation album from story-telling DJ and accomplished producer Cioz.

The Body Language album series has been a flagship for the Get Physical label since the mid-noughties, with instalments taken over by Dixon, DJ Hell, Francesco Tristano, DJ T., and many more. Now the label welcomes the excellent Cioz into the hot set.

Volume 23 is packed with Cioz remixes, collaborations, and standout singles from the well-regarded and self-taught artist. Some are brand new, some have been teased on EPs in the lead up to the full release, but each one proves he is an artist with an accomplished sound. Cioz hails from Bergamo in Italy and has established a fine reputation on labels like Monaberry and Stil vor Talent.

Body Language Vol. 23 opens with ‘Soul Fixer,’ a slow-building, slow-burning synth-scape filled with drama and tension. Then comes his subtle yet superb remix of M.A.N.D.Y. vs. Booka Shade’s stone-cold classic ‘Body Language’ with its irresistible lead melody line. The first of many collabs is with Corpino on ‘Kari Lampi,’ a slick and supple minimal house track awash with gorgeous strings. Further collaborations include the bustling drums and fizzing synths of ‘Hey Honey’ with T.M.A, late-night headiness of ‘Haunted’ with Nairobi D, and organic grooves of punchy floor-filler ‘Focus Pocus’ with Boy Oh Boy.

At the midpoint, there is depth and darkness to the turbulent synths of ‘Imperfection’ with &lez, and then beautiful tension between the tight bass and beautiful melodic breakdown of ‘Warm Worm’ with Sides. The fantastic ‘Jodi Rush’ with Super Flu is sure to twist heads on the dance floor with its complex synth patterns, and a Lucky Shot Extended Mix of ‘Dancing in the Night’ has a perfectly soulful vocal over rubbery house grooves. Much loved Cioz tunes ‘Rain’ and his Neapolis Remix of Patrice Bäumel’s ‘Clair’ from earlier EPs make the cut and lend yet more depth and enchanting melody to this most thoughtful and atmospheric of electronic journeys.

With Body Language Vol. 23, Cioz proves he is an artist with a wide range of different, equally emotive house styles in his arsenal.

We are presenting ‘Jodi Rush’.
