Play Function Issues, a sublabel of Back Door Records, is presenting ‘Perseverance Valley’, the debut EP from Colombian DJ and producer Soft Collision.

Soft Collision is the new project of the Medellín-based selector Callejas, which slides off from the sound that he has been recognized by since the beginning. Going through an old school techno and EBM based identity, his sound is mainly led by a deep comprehension of sonic landscapes with vertical singularities, nourished by artists as Shed, Tadeo, Answer Code Request, Merino, Dsum and Morris.

‘Perseverance Valley’ EP consists of five original tracks in which one can find IDM, drone, electro, and techno. All of them crouched by a mental air and zigzagging rhythms.

We are presenting the title track ‘Perseverance Valley’.

ФАКТУРА (Faktura) is a Russian community of electronic music producers based in Yekaterinburg, a city in the Ural Mountains chain. They are publishing original music only from locals, in pursuit to find Ural identity in sound and music, understand it and explore.

Next on Faktura is ‘Night Attack’, the fourth album of Elizaveta Pechenevskaya aka Ficus.

‘Night Attack’ is a 10 track freak-IDM album, a synthesis of the naive technology of horror movies with zero aesthetics, as well as a mystical experience: a strong sense of fear, separation of the soul from the body, darkness, or vice versa, bright, blinding light – all this has served as sources for creative research and action.

Written under the influence of the works of Richard D. James, ‘Night Attack’, creates a new space for Lisa’s music. The rhythm seems to be trying to escape in fear, it gets stuck, it gets confused, but it doesn’t slow down the pace. At the same time, the thin layers of ghostly vocals remind us of the creatures that live in each of us, staying in the shadows all the time.

“The main source of inspiration for me was the ideas of cyberpunk, futurism. I was inspired by the naive technologies of 2000, I especially wanted to make a sound based on 2000, some references to the time when people entered a new age and were inspired by the future.

I wanted to achieve similar musical intertwining between bass and synthesizer. In doing so, I was very inspired by the aesthetics of horror movies that have played an important role for my taste and aesthetic preferences throughout my life.” – Ficus

We are presenting the fourth track, ‘Nectar’.

“Definitely my favorite three tracks, ‘Nectar’, ‘Conductor’ and ‘Night Attack’, together they form a composition reminiscent of the trilogy of Lars von Trier or Roman Polanski. These are different stories with different moods, but they are all imbued with some inner anxiety and a sense of approaching the inevitable.

In ‘Nectar’ it seems like I’m talking to a person, but I’m not. I sing – «Ya derzhus za glaza zari» (I’m holding onto the eyes of the sundawn), «gubi kak myagkii nektar» (lips like a soft nectar) – are the animated signs of a creature I feel but don’t see, it’s a metaphysical image. The voice in this track, and in the whole album is specially made illegible, like it’s hidden behind other instruments. I didn’t want to get the voice to play a leading role, but rather to see how words and sounds would interact with each other.” – Ficus

#Soundhitectures #Drum & Bass #Breakbeat #IDM #Acid #Deep

A young Belgian author Placid One (Maximilien Vincent) doesn’t shy from the genre interplay – in the last couple of years he produced a plethora of captivating tracks ranging from the retro/acid, deep and minimal styles of club music to the jungle groove and diverse broken beats. Today we’ll have a taste of his upcoming EP “B4You”, coming out on the Slovenian label Soundhitectures – it delivers a vision of breakbeat for the new millennium, yet it’s bountifully colored with the warm and dusty sound of times past.

Speaking of Soundhitectures – it’s an uncompromising platform covering the most diverse areas of electronic sound, with a focus on it’s innovative styles. As they like to say, they think about electronic music “a living organism, always changing and figuring itself out along the way”. They managed to give us a pleasant surprise with the “Organ Hell” EP, composed by the synth magician Jan Nemeček, while their discography contains treasures by authors such as Evident, Paoli, Timo Chinala and other visionaries of the underground. regardless of genre, almost always one can scent IDM elements developed from the 90’s school of advanced electronics. “Analog Escape” is no exception:

The track opens with a broken beat ornated with crispy hihats almost glitching away, and its painted over with wide brushstrokes of warm synth pads that dissolve anxiety. A calm pitched-down vocal delivers a supernatural impact, paired with melodies emerging from the benevolent areas of The Twilight Zone. Despite the fact the track transcends the 4×4 framework, there’s no violent dissolving of the song structure. This is a quite delightful piece for a rainy day reverie, but also for the dancefloor action: while the robots in the rhythm-box activate the limbs of the dancers with their cybernetic jazz, a mellow analog buzz spreads it’s abstract poetry through the ether.

EP “B4 You” coming out 27th of February on Soundhitectures.
