The Liquid Dude is a new alias from a seasoned veteran exploring half-melted genres and twisted rhythms on a brand new album ‘Can I Music?’, an 8-track exploration that reminds us of the original power of electronic music.

Under a former alias, The Liquid Dude has long been a fixture in the electronic scene, collaborating with artists such as Emanuel Satie, Leif, and Lehar, among others. He has played all over the world, including at Detroit’s legendary TV Lounge, and also scores for film. His work has won international awards such as Best Film at the 22nd Wildlife Vaasa Film Festival in Finland and Best Documentary at the 5th MADRIFF. He has directed independent films, music videos, commercials, and creative fashion and art photoshoot sessions, and blends visual and musical storytelling with a distinct artistic vision

After a 12-year hiatus from the DJ circuit, he’s back with fresh energy and perspective for this new album and an immersive event series, Into the Hole. Early bookings at high-profile venues like Eden in Ibiza have started this new chapter with a bang, and this new album is only set to take him to new levels once more. It arrives on the newly launched Liquid Freaks label, which, since 2023, has been an event series run by a highly experienced group keen to revive the raw spirit of the early warehouse scene.

“What you’ll hear isn’t nostalgia, it’s a disassembled memory rebuilt from frequencies and mild paranoia. It’s the echo of someone who once lived inside the scene, then slipped out quietly when it stopped making sense. Not a tribute, a confrontation. A cracked mirror held up to a culture that once moved bodies and minds.” – The Liquid Dude

Opener ‘Skip This’ begins with atmospheric synth modulation, textured smears, and curious melodies before ‘Nipponacidfunk’ delivers a twisted house workout with funky drumming and screwy 303s laced with Japanese spoken words. The singular sounds continue on the pressurised and winky acid madness of ‘Shakyshaky’, while ‘Botox Love’ is an off-grid rhythm with unhinged synths and flaming breakbeats, warped vocals and acid flashes that take you to the heart of a strobe-lit warehouse. ‘Freaking Freaks’ brings old school piano energy to new school club rhythms and ‘Digital Dopamine’ is tripped out afterparty electro with aliens controlling the machines. There is a more introverted feel to the plunging bass and melancholic chords of ‘Indigestion’ before closer ‘The Old Days’ pairs warm summer synths with spoken word musings and elastic rhythms.

We are presenting the seventh track, ‘Indigestion’.

Six years after their last album, ‘Kites’, the UK-based group makes their long-awaited return with a five-track EP, ‘Five Points’, which was recorded over a period of two months and will be available via SMO Recordings.

Whilst featuring the uniquely fragile voice of Ruby Wood and their signature live instrumentation, ‘Five Points’ EP also delves into rhythms, soundscapes and effects that push their recognisable sound as far as it can go, and acts as the perfect taster for the forthcoming album that the band are currently recording.

After revisiting their past work with the Unplugged collections and a 2023 acoustic tour, Submotion Orchestra felt ready to explore new directions. The ‘Five Points’ EP was created with a more focused and unified approach, resulting in a seamless recording process. They experimented with Ruby’s voice, using it more as an instrument than a traditional vocal, leading to new and innovative performances. Five Points is more synth-heavy and experimental, stripping elements back to their basics to maximise impact. The lyrics reflect the band’s fifteen years together, touching on the challenges of adulthood, such as relationships, responsibilities, and the shift from youthful optimism to a more realistic perspective on life.

“We’ve been together 15 years now, and have gone through a lot of experiences both individually and collectively in that time. The lyrics allude to that stage in life when you’ve passed through youthful energy and optimism and are dealing with much more serious things in life – births, deaths, relationships ending, responsibilities that seem to come out of nowhere and rapidly dominate your life. This can be overwhelming and hopeless, but sometimes it can also lead to a little bit of wisdom and realism about your own goals and achievement.” – Taz (Submotion Orchestra)

Submotion Orchestra, formed in 2009 in Leeds, UK is a genre-defying band known for seamlessly blending deep electronica, jazz, soul, and ambient downtempo. Their music combines powerful bass and drums with lush keyboards, trumpet textures, and the fragile beauty of Ruby Wood’s vocals. They quickly gained attention with live performances and their debut album ‘Finest Hour’, which became a cult classic. Over the years, they released several acclaimed albums, collaborated with various artists, and gained a reputation for stunning live shows. The COVID lockdown saw the band return to basics by recording and releasing their Unplugged collections, featuring fan and band favourites performed in a stripped-back setting, which they brought to rapturous concert audiences in 2023 in collaboration with the Prism String Ensemble. 2024 sees the tireless band return to the studio for their most fascinating recording yet – the ‘Five Points’ EP, which ploughs a path through electronic, jazz, ambient and soul in the singular way that Submotion Orchestra can do.

We are presenting the fourth track ‘Side Two’.

‘Five Points’ EP will be available via SMO Recordings after the 25th of October HERE.

Achille Soardi AKA INTO YOU is no stranger to the scene. It was in 2007 that, under his Kende alias, he set up his own imprint, Lokomotiv Recordings, creating a platform for his own musical expressions. The likes of Francesca Lombardo, Valentino Kanzyani and Mauro Alpha all featured on the label, whilst his DJ career began to burgeon and flourish within the thriving UK music scene. In more recent times, Soardi released the stunning ‘Suzuki Song’ EP on Echoe last year, and has now swiftly followed this up with the eclectic ‘Dispersion OK’ EP, showcasing his diverse and varied production style.

We are presenting the second track ‘You Know I Love You’. It begins with a reverberating retro-themed synth solo, paving the way for a pronounced kick-snare combination that you can’t help but dance to, before the breaks-inspired Lake takes us on a cosmic journey with its celestial pulses and glitchy, echo-filled percussion.

Released via Gravitas Recordings, ‘Solstice’ is a six track album that embodies Savej’s experiences as a student of life. By creating a compilation of work that infuses ancient cultures with ones in modern day, Savej preserves a worldly resonant vibe to prompt journeys of the mind.

We are presenting the title track ‘Solstice’, which spotlights Savej’s practice of the Kargyraa style of throat singing, a skill that demanded weeks of training to achieve proper vocal cord disengagement.

Portuguese artist Toada returns to his Plūma imprint with five intricate, melodic cuts entitled ‘Poema Colectivo’.

Toada is a Portuguese producer who combines emotional melodies, forward thinking, playful rhythms that define this unique project where Northern and Southern Hemisphere influences meet to superb effect. Continuing to explore concepts relevant to humanity, Toada wrote ‘Poema Colectivo’ as a cathartic artistic expression during the pandemic and the recurrent social inequalities. The calming, hopeful and sometimes agitated tracks emphasise the need for an honest collective response towards a better world. ‘Poema Colectivo’, translates to ‘Collective Poem’ – an exercise where everybody contributes with a word to make up a form of poetry.

Berlin-based label Ode To Youth will drop a staggering Mathew Jonson remix of Liam Mour’s debut single ‘Douro’.

As the second artist to date to release on the recently founded Ode To Youth label, Mathew Jonson flips the original 14/16 groove with its organic sound sphere into an instantly classic 4-to-the-floor banger by adding his unique transcendent synth lines to the jaunty rhythm of the percussions. In this intuitive pairing the Canadian hardware fanatic Mathew Jonson creates yet another undeniably beautiful composition.

“Having the opportunity to work with live instrumentation is quite rare for me these days. It was quite challenging to get the parts into a dance floor format,” Mathew Jonson said about the remix. “Still, for me I prefer the original. It‘s a beautiful piece of music.”

The original track ‘Douro’ came out in March and was premiered by Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC 6music and marked the release debut of Funkhaus resident Liam Mour on Ode To Youth, followed by his eponymous EP.

The Canadian label Woodwork Recordings is presenting ‘Slip Hop’, the first in a series of EPs from Riddim Fernandez.

High school professor in math and physics, instructor in rock climbing, and downhill biking, Riddim Fernandez was born in Barbados in the mid ‘70s and was raised in Toronto. His original productions have been published on labels such as Earthday Recordings, East Van Digital, and Squinty Bass Records.

‘Slip Hop’ EP is a collection of hearty dubs overflowing with vibe and mood. The overall effect of these tracks is utter chill-age, while the beats themselves are chunky and thick, with every element direct and purposeful.

We are presenting the fifth track ‘Illusions’, which is working beautifully by keeping sparse until the perfect moments, where Riddim Fernandez introduces hooks and parts that play only once or twice before moving to the next. The half / double time overlay occurs regularly on here in the percussion fills, the bass, and the vocals, resulting in a feel that is simultaneously laid back and pushing forward.

Berlin-based producer Oblique returns to the electrocaïne imprint in 2020 with four resounding cuts entitled ‘Sun’ EP.

Oblique is a Berlin-based artist framing genre-bending and pulsating soundscapes together with a non- conformist attitude. Drawing influences from his wide cultural background, each release communicates a different take on electronic music. While Oblique’s Argandiwal (وال ارغنده) release on Mauritius based label electrocaïne in April 2018 touched upon the exploration of a lost heritage through intense and multi-layered soundscapes, his ‘Sun’ EP comes with a more technically focused probe into how some of the previously discovered and now signature elements could be further embodied in the dance format.

With the four tracks crossing established genres, Oblique takes elements of house, techno and breakbeat to create his own vision awashed in the bright rays of luminosity that shone through ‘Sun’ EP.

We are presenting the last track ‘Known’, a cut that rounds things off by uniting glistening soundscapes and angelic leads smoothly blended with reviving elements within.
