French producer, composer, and DJ GGGG, also known as Gabriel, founded the label D.KO Records in 2013 alongside Flabaire, Mézigue, and Mud Deep. Focused on physical media, the label released its first vinyl record and has since continued to release music in a variety of styles.

Through D.KO, GGGG helps artists develop and build their projects while also overseeing the label’s events. After 10 years at Studio Villette45, GGGG, along with D.KO, developed Studio LaHaie—a residence and creative hub that hosts many artists affiliated with the label.

A passionate fan of machines and modular synths, GGGG is presenting a live solo show this year, featuring a mix of smoky sounds, electro, ghetto, IDM, and other electronic influences.

“I made this mix spontaneously, without preparation. It starts with some deep tracks and naturally progresses toward more break and electro sounds. I included three of my own tracks, one of which is an unreleased collaboration with my friend Fasme,” GGGG says about the 178th Klubikon Podcast.

The 173rd Klubikon Podcast is mixed by the Italian house DJ and producer Nicola D’Angella.

Nicola d’Angella, a Puglian native born in the 2000s, witnessed the zenith of minimal music shaping the era’s trends and ethos. Influential venues like Mandarino and Clorophilla were trendsetters, their pulsating beats captivating many, including Nicola, alongside thousands of youths.

Driven by a passion for club culture, Nicola aspired to be a pivotal part of this scene, channeling his music through hip-hop influences and the raw sounds emblematic of his personality and Puglia’s dynamic culture. His productions are marked by a distinct, robust groove, finding homes on esteemed labels such as Sk, Issues, Viva Music, and Raw Thentic. His tracks have climbed the Beatport charts, supported by industry giants like Michael Bibi, Cloonee, Detlef, Marco Carola, Mahony, among others.

Now, Nicola D’Angella launched his new label Raw Cuts with his own ‘Ssociety’ EP which exemplifies his raw-yet-soulful, stripped-back style.

“When I face the challenge of preparing a mix or a podcast, I find myself immersed in a compelling dilemma. Unlike a live set, I don’t have the audience in front of me, ready to react and engage with what I propose. In this solitary environment, it’s just me and my music, tasked with creating something that conveys the intensity and purity of my emotions.

In a mix, each track becomes a reflection of my soul, an intimate story that I seek to narrate through captivating rhythms and engaging melodies. Choosing the best tracks of 2023 was just the beginning: I searched for those loaded with groove and powerful basslines that could best communicate my emotional state at that time. The result is a journey through sound that I hope will resonate with whoever listens to it in the future, carrying forward the narrative I’ve begun, transmitting emotions, and connecting souls through music.” – Nicola d’Angella

Russian Linesman is a Nottingham-based musician whose expansive discography, chalking up two studio albums alongside numerous singles and EPs, has picked up support from key tastemakers such as BBC 6 Music’s Nemone.

Following the release of Nick Muir’s remix of ‘The Road Back’ on his own Loki Recordings, we sat down with the enigmatic producer to ask him some questions about his approach to music making, life in lockdown and how utilises concepts in his tracks. In addition he recorded us a mix for Klubikon Podcast which you can hear below.

Thanks for recording this mix for Klubikon Podcast, could you tell us about it?

You gave me complete creative control over the mix, so I decided to just make a mix of things I liked. It turned into a mix of songs I had been listening to in lockdown to keep me sane. So there are quite a few genres in there, plus a Mac Quayle song from the Mr Robot soundtrack. It’s ultimately a promotional mix, so it had to have the Nick Muir remix of me in it and a remix I did for the band Archive last year. Hope people enjoy it.

TRACKLIST:

The Californian based hardware obsessed producer Selective Response was a name that started to get some circulation in all the right places, after his releases on Bandcamp were picked up by Dax J, I Hate Models, Perc, Cleric and Amelie Lens. After starting his own label Crisis Of Man in 2019 he has been steadily producing a selection of his own releases focused solely on a heavier, industrial and punishing techno sound with EBM influences.

Finally, tell us a bit about this mix you have done for us? What’s new and different from some of the last we have heard online?

The main difference is fresh records from myself and friends, but other than that I always try to mix things up and keep each new mix interesting and different from the rest. The intro on this one is great, and I tried to ride the bpm out a bit more on this one compared to quickly increasing it like on other ones. I’m curious to see how the IDs work here since I have no way of testing them in a club, but hopefully everyone enjoys this.

We are excited to see what else he has coming into 2021, with some talk of a VA on the label as a way to bring some other new and exciting acts to the brand.
Tell us about the mix you’ve put together for Klubikon Podcast… any tracks in particular you’d like to highlight?

For sure…in addition to some fresh new releases from standout artists like Luigi Rocca, Dead Space & Tini Gessler, it’s also got a few productions from up-and-coming producers I’ve met along my artist journey like Kid Cut and Pass the 40. The mix also has three new tracks of mine, including the lead track ‘Invisible’ which is coming out on Andreas Hennberg & Beth Lydi’s SNOE (I’m really excited about this one as it’s one of my favorite labels!). I’ve also included one of two remixes I did recently for a vocal track called ‘Vibrate’ by Sebastian Park & So Vogue out now on Vanilla Ace’s WyldCard label. Then, towards the end I’ve got the dub version of an upcoming remix of mine that needs to remain an ID for now!

Llorca has been releasing on the labels such as F Communications, PIAS, 20:20 Vision and Phonica, and his tracks are played by some of the biggest artist in the music industry.

What follows is an Klubikon interview before his performance at Voi’Sa festival on the Croatian island of Brač. For this occasion Llorca also recorded an exclusive studio mix for Klubikon Podcast, that he has described like this:

“It’s always a bit weird to record a dance music podcast home alone, after all, it’s a kind of music to be played and shared in clubs with many people. So, when I record a podcast I see it as an opportunity to play some of the recent tracks I like the most. It’s like a snapshot of my current musical taste. Except that, as you’re not in the club you don’t get the dance floor’s energy, and I think this is why podcasts always sound a little bit more mellow than usual club sets.”
