Based in Washington DC, Ben Kane, aka Motives, is an artist on the rise having featured across a host of the city’s renowned venues including Flash, Sax and Ten Tigers. A lifelong musician, drawing inspiration from melodic and progressive territories and artists such as Lane 8, Yotto and Cassian, his musical output under Kane (DC) led to strong early-attention from across the scene, and this November welcomes a debut appearance on Le Youth’s PRGRSSN Records imprint as he delivers the first release under his Motives guise, ‘Solace’.

We are presenting ‘Nothing Stays’, an immersive track that concludes ‘Solace’ EP in tantalising fashion as further alluring vocal work ebbs and flows amongst effervescent basslines and sweeping leads to shape up proceedings.

What’s the idea behind the album’s creation?

The idea behind my new album with the title ‘The Breakdown’ is to have a large collection of different tracks that are mostly atmospheric and let the audience interpret their own story in every single production. It was important for me to express my whole potential in the studio and get everything together in this album, that’s why I decided to put 24 tracks on it. At the beginning the sound is quite soft with a lot of melodic elements and classic instruments. To the end, it gets much harder and faster with some acid, psy-trance elements and vocals.

‘SUBSEQUENT’ VA is filled with pounding and deep beats but also melodic and Detroit-esque chords on the flipside, ...]]> After Us Records, a young techno label that emerged from Croatia in 2018, is presenting ‘SUBSEQUENT’ various artist compilation. Label’s mainframe is electronic music with few genre limitations although different styles of techno music are the link here.

‘SUBSEQUENT’ VA is filled with pounding and deep beats but also melodic and Detroit-esque chords on the flipside, featuring four original tracks from Petter B, Perø, Ray Kajioka and Bosnyak.

We are presenting arguably the most melodic part of the ‘SUBSEQUENT’ VA, the third track ‘Dark Horse’. Ray Kajioka pulls another sweet sheet of warm melodic and rhythmic blend and does it stunningly while drawing a simple but perfect toms sequence around it. With a lush synth in front, the track is almost ominous and memory provoking and every rimshot feels like fast forward to the next glimpse of forgotten situations. This is what progressive music is all about.

With a distinguishable and striking warm spheric sound, Ray Kajioka’s production span is now 25 years and in that time he managed to release music on labels such as Kanzleramt, Cocoon, Müller to name a few. He is also no stranger on remixing duty which intersected him with names like Joel Mull, Heiko Laux, Truncate, Victor Calderone, Tom Hades, Pan-Pot, Elbee Bad, Alexander Kowalski, DJ T1000, Eddie Hale, Housemeister, Beroshima and more.

He has made everything from melodic soundscapes to industrial techno under a range of aliases and always draws ...]]> Alexander Church continues to establish his vital Configurations of Self label with a new collaborative project with James Welsh, ‘Exploring Fear & Sadness’.

Alexander Church is an adventurous artist who has been in the scene since the mid-nineties. He has made everything from melodic soundscapes to industrial techno under a range of aliases and always draws inspiration from his own deep thinking and desire to tell a personal story.

This new project, ‘Exploring Fear & Sadness’, is an introduction to a series of collaborations between Church and James Welsh. This is Part 1, with Part 2 coming a month later and two further EPs later in 2020 which will aim to highlight PTSD through music and a VR experience.

“Each track in this series aims to propel the listener into different thoughts and experiences aimed at exploring our own fears and sadness” says Church.

We are presenting the second track, James Welsh version of ‘Grief & Loss’.

James Welsh has been making inventive electronic sounds on labels like Phantasy Sounds, among others for many years. He always layers up enveloping bass and skyward synths into highly intoxicating and avant garde tracks. Here he reworks ‘Grief & Loss’ into a cosmic techno adventure with hi-tek soul and intricately layered synths all soaring and gliding.
