Tinexis: Spiritual quality of music can be expressed only by sounds, beats and chords

Cosmic shamanism of progressive harmonies delivering much more than just an incentive to dancing.

Recently, we were delighted to present you “Cryptogram” a fresh track by a mysterious project Tinexis, which delves through progressive house realms rich with Moroder-like harmonies. Besides the music itself, this project unveils a particular spiritual mystique, while its author remains hidden behind a shamanistic ritual mask. Even though we all agree music comes first, there’s always place for a dose of healthy theatrics, that open the way for extraordinary experiences.

This approach made us genuinely interested, so we decided to become acquainted with the author through an interview, while he also recorded an engaging podcast which reveals his lavish taste in music. It delivers some delightful cosmic aesthetics with a hefty portion of juicy grooves and sublime melodies. Get to know this mysterious, shamanic entity!

Your musical cocktail is derived from the groovy and sensual deep / tech backbone and the spiritual / cosmic delights of progressive harmonies. How did you arrive to this formula and why do you find it ideal for expressing your vision?

I would say it’s an eclectic way to produce connected with my old and new influences. It can be House or Techno, there’s always some sounds or grooves that will immediately recall some old stuff, the whole thing with new experimentation. I try to combine beats, groove, spiritually and harmony into a cocktail.

It seems you’ve worked out quite a conceptual background for your project. Besides the music itself, what does this mythological aspect deliver to the listeners?

It depicts the whole project as more spiritual and animal. Since the beginning of human history animals had a special place in beliefs and religions all around the planet. Egyptian gods had animal faces to depersonalize their human condition to something more mystical connected to their gifts and power. With all this they succeeded in bringing together a whole people. This is exactly my mission, erasing the human being to let place to an entity that brings people together for the time my music is on.

What’s the reason you’ve decided to take on anonymity wearing masks? Are the authors actually some wide-known stars, is it a need to lay more importance to the music or a theatrical bonus to the performance? Did you find inspiration in acts such as The Residents or Daft Punk?

It’s a mix between theatrics, past and anonymity. The mask fits to this mythological thing, it is not about just wearing a mask to follow a trend or anything like that. It is to capture the people attention into this mystical atmosphere. Also I had a past as an artist until now and it was better to switch to something different avoiding to make the link between who I was before and Tinexis. It’s like a new birth, or a resurrection. There’s also the fact that I want to stay unknown, get into the crowd after my sets, switching completely to normality when the show is over.

Besides the futuristic aesthetic, your music carries a lot of reference to the golden age of electronic disco, as defined by authors such as Giorgio Moroder or the group Space. Did you consciously translate this classic sound to the contemporary language or is it just a spontaneous result of your jamming?

I grew up with a mom that played a lot of disco, funk or 80ies new wave music in her car or at home. This was my first musical influence so obviously that’s something that you can find out on my music because it’s a part of me . Therefore I kept this special kind of sounds into my productions, but I would say this is not a rule. It really depends on what atmosphere I want to bring into the track.

If we set aside the pure hedonism, which spiritual qualities are embedded in your work? Could you say that there’s more to your tracks and DJ sets than the incentive to dance?

The first spiritual quality is instinct. Something that is out of words, that only sounds, beats and chords can express. I know that something is good when the time stop completely when a track start playing. So of course there’s something more about dancing on my music. It’s all about setup a little light on hearts and brains, fix our mind about one special moment. This is the magic of music. When you get there you can be sure that everything’s gonna be right.

Would you define your stance as underground? How wide is your audience and whom should it encompass?

Depends on which side you are, it would be underground for people used to more commercial stuff and not for others lot more involved into hardest styles of electronic music. What I know is that I’m able to remix some pop, rock tracks which can easily please mainstream ears, and produce other tracks besides really techy and ravey. About the audience, I would say that I’m more about encountering people which have a real interest about the music I play. I really prefer a crowd of 100 who know why they come for, than a crowd of 10 000 that don’t even know the names on the lineup or what kind of music is played.

Describe your vision of the future of clubbing and your place in it! Do you think that we’re about to experience some radical changes or the development is about to stay gradual?

I think that clubbing will get more and more into common places. Clubs, bars, and festival will not be the only hosts for electronic music events, I think we will find some happenings into malls, for commercial purposes, for celebrations and more special and special events. A lot of people get bored about classical clubs and parties, promoters and events people will have to respond to a larger demand and different combinations.

Concerning the short-term future – give us some hints on the upcoming season! Are there some upcoming shows and releases soon to hit the shelves?

I have a lots of amazing things coming up for this year and I’m very excited about it. I’m setting up a release with one of the biggest label in the industry, I can’t tell you more for now. What is gonna pop up very soon is my own label “Dreamcatcher”, with loads of amazing music and artists that will join me. The first release will be “Dark Side Of The Moon”. There’s also some tours that we are planning with my manager, and finally we are preparing something for the Amsterdam Dance Event in October.
