House mainstay ROSA (US) drops a new EP on Fast Lane, legends Hipp-E and Alexi Delano add stellar remixes.
ROSA (US) is Michael Rosa, an artist who has made his mark with a full-length album on Deep Tech Records, and a standout recent EP on the cult Nervous Records. The Orlando-born and now Denver-based DJ and producer has a sound rooted in house music, and on this release, it is more sophisticated than ever.
The brilliantly deep and atmospheric ‘Why We Love’ opens up with balmy pads and smeared chords, bringing a woozy late-night feel to the dubby house drums. The crisp ‘Oh’ Like That’ is another futuristic house sound with rolling drums and warm bass under an ecosystem of wispy vocal fragments and trippy synth details that bring great colour and charm. Then comes ‘Flowski’ (Michael Rosa & Carlos Rivera mix), a deep and lithe tech house cut with bubbly synths rising through the drums next to vocal whispers.
The superb ‘A Time To Do Right’ is a more raw tech cut with jumbled percussion and big hits, making for an edgy late-night sound with another killer bassline. First to remix is Hipp-E, one-half of the cult West Coast house innovators H-Foundation, who fomented their fresh take on the genre and have released plenty of seminal records and a fine Fabric mix CD. His remix ups the pace and layers in some sci-fi melodies and widescreen dub chords that comfort while the well-designed drums lock you into the groove. Final remixer Alexi Delano has been a staple in the underground techno and minimal scene since the 90s and shows his class here. He brings techno energy and a spangled acid line that ups the ante and makes for something more direct and mind-melting.
We are presenting the remix of ‘Flowski’ by Michael Rosa & Carlos Rivera.
