Now, she holds a successful party residency in D-Edge São Paulo called ‘Unlocked’. She’s released music on labels such as Saved, Circus, Moon Harbour, Viva Limited, Mindshake, Elrow and Drumcode, founding her Agape Muzik label in 2020. She now releases the ‘Phoenix’ album on the latter, which has already received support from the Martinez Brothers, Jamie Jones, Paco Osuna, Nic Fanciulli, and more.
“This album is about embracing the darkness to find the light. It’s about transformation, healing, and the unwavering human spirit.” – Melanie Ribbe.
The ‘Phoenix’ LP starts with ‘All Night’, where Melanie Ribbe combines swinging organic rhythms with heartfelt keys and an evocative vocal to match. It’s an album filled to the brim with feeling, and while introspective, firmly at home in the club via cuts like ‘Lolita’ and its earworm hip-hop vocal and hard-hitting drums. ‘Strictly Rhythm’ treads darker notes with a deep and driving bassline, followed by the rave-influenced ‘Resilience’ and ‘Treblesome’, again reaching for the light with the passionate ‘For You’ and groove-laden ‘Mamaia’.
Alongside Melanie Ribbe’s own performances across the album, she is also joined by vocalist Javi Jamasmie. Tripped-out percussion and subtle glitches support her warm lyrics in ‘Elevate Your Soul’, inviting listeners to lose all inhibition before ‘Evolution’ in which tight House drums and soft synth sequences accompany spoken word vocals that switch between English and Spanish. Club cut ‘Tonight’ then sees Jamasmie recount tales from the Ibizan dancefloors alongside a robotic male vocal and plenty more signature hypnotic touches.
‘Phoenix’ by Melanie Ribbe is an uplifting and transformative album which tells a deeply personal story of resilience and triumph through the universal language of electronic music grooves.
We are resenting the second track, ‘Lolita’.
