Kai Alce, Charlie Soul Clap, Rocco Rodamaal & Alex Finkin, and Dennis Quin deliver remixes of Louie Vega’s 2022 track ‘Seven Mile’ featuring Moodymann, originally released on the legendary Nervous Records.
House pioneer Louie Vega originally collaborated with Detroit maverick Moodymann on ‘Seven Mile’ back in 2022 for his ‘Expansions in The NYC’ album. The original single is included here in a short version, along with a gorgeously jazzy Louie Instrumental Demo, and a superb selection of 11 remixes from some of dance music’s most vital names: Dennis Quin, Rocco Rodamaal, Kai Alce, Alex Finkin, and Charles Levine.
Dutchman Dennis Quin is a house champion with credits on labels like Defected, Madhouse Records, and PIV. His remix is a kicking house workout, with Moodymann’s vocals weaving through the mix, adding smoky soul. These are then stripped away for a more raw instrumental version. Frenchman Rocco Rodamaal is a veteran of the scene for over 20 years, having played all over the world and is a major player in deep house. His Deep Down Mix has been a big hit on global dance floors for Louie already and carefully cooks up a grand, hypnotic sound that consumes the crowd and locks them into its absorbing grooves. Next is Kai Alce, another deep and soulful master who heads up NDATL from his base in Atlanta. His remix is a bumping one with stiff snares and a growling low end that’s lit up by sophisticated chords that glow bright and with inescapable warmth.
Rodamaal then works with Parisian producer Alex Finkin on a remix which centres on cosmic and twinkling melodies and spiritual synth lines that weave in and out of Moodyman’s musings. Rocco then goes solo on “Bubbly Dubby Mix” with neat chord loops and textured shakers, before offering a pared-down instrumental. Next is Charlie from Soul Clap, the Boston duo famous for their loved-up e-funk sound. His remix is the most direct of the package with chunky drums lit up by prickly synths and meandering jazzy leads that speak to the soul. His Wild Remix turns everything up a notch with more unhinged synths and raucous drums, closing out an essential EP that features cultured house sounds for every moment of the night.
