Defqon.1 festival se održava već 12. godina u Nizozemskoj, a svoju verziju od 2009. godine ima i Australija.
Prvo izdanje Defqon.1 festivala održano je 2003. godine na plaži Almere, u Nizozemskoj, a u sljedećih nekoliko godina Defqon.1 je postao jedan od najvećih plesnih festivala na svijetu. Od 2011. godine, Defqon.1 u Nizozemskoj je postao višednevni festival uz kampiranje koji pohodi oko 60,000 posjetitelja. Od 2009. godine postoji australska verzija Defqon.1, koji se održava u Međunarodnom jedriličarskom centru u Sydneyu.
Ove godine, nizozemsko izdanje održat će se od 19. do 21. lipnja, a ulaznice su od ovoga tjedna službeno rasprodane.
Pozornice su nazvane po bojama, pa će na Black stageu nastupati predstavnici Hardstylea, na Blue stageu predstavnici Hardcorea, na Gold stageu nastupaju izvođači Early Ravea, a na Silver Stageu predstavnici Industriala. Lineup festivala je prilično impresivan jer na njemu nastupaju svi važniji predstavnici hard dance scene poput Zatoxa, Anime, Mad Doga, Wildstyleza i mnogih mnogih drugih.
