PREMIERE: Alexander Church – Derwentwater (Ranj Kaler Remix)

Alexander Church returns with a new series of EPs inspired by the joy of the early morning and the great outdoors. ‘Moments On The Shoreline’ kicks off on his Configurations of Self label and features Ranj Kaler remixes.

Alexander Church makes everything from techno and ambient to breakbeat, mostly on his own label. He has embarked on several cerebral projects, including, most recently, ‘Everyday Mysteries’, which was based on how our brain processes memories and moments. Now he is back with a brand new concept series.

Says the artist of this project, “Moments on the Shoreline is a new series of releases inspired by my early morning walking on the shorelines of lakes and oceans. Capturing these moments with my camera has inspired the writing of the music in an organic way.”

Fantastic opener ‘Melia’ has a synth serenity that captures the magic of a gentle coastal walk. The drums are paddy and fluid as they drive on and lock you into a meditative state while angelic vocals drift about up top. Remixer Ranj Kaler is London-based and deals in deep, hip-swinging grooves full of emotion and feeling on labels like Stripped and Pangea Recordings. His 5am Sunrise Remix of ‘Melia’ is more blissed out and glows with celestial energy as the delicate synths and pads fill the airwaves.

Church’s ‘Derwentwater’ is another carefully interwoven mix of liquid rhythms and ambient pads that make for lush listening. The mellifluous arps are offset by more pixelated pads to add extra layers of texture to this perfectly escapist groove. Last of all, Kaler remixes it into a gently broken beat awash with diffuse pads and gorgeous vocals.

We are presenting the fourth track, Ranj Kaler’s remix of ‘Derwentwater’.

‘Moments On The Shoreline Part 1’ EP will be available after the 25th of August HERE.
