Nans? and Rødig join forces once again for the ‘Threshold 33’ EP on Shojiki Records.
Swiss Shojiki Records founder Rødig links up once again with France’s Nans? for the ‘Threshold 33’ EP. It follows their collaborative debut on Shojiki Records, 2023’s ‘Sususwatari’ EP, and arrives as a limited-edition lacquer cut already supported by Radio Slave, Raresh, and more.
Their ‘Threshold 33’ EP opens with slicingly thin breakbeats that cut through dubby, filtered sequences on the dreamlike ‘Beyond’. ‘Unit33’ follows with a loopy, minimal pulse, its atmosphere slowly materialising in the background as the groove pushes forward. ‘Before Names’ then serves as a gorgeous ambient bridge to the B-side. On the flip, ‘Smooth Rift’ continues the stripped-back drum work, its delicate details scratching at the surface, before ‘Confusing Reality’ closes the record in a swirl of foreboding bass, warped textures, and a raw, chugging rhythm.
Both based in Switzerland, Nans? and Rødig craft electronic music led more by instinct and emotion than by allegiance to any genre. After years in Berlin, Otium District member Rødig shaped a sound defined by honesty and fluidity, moving freely between techno, UKG, house, breaks, and ambient—as heard on his ‘Human Machine’ LP and ‘Soft Resistance’ EP on Shojiki Records. Nans?, originally from Grenoble, made a decisive shift in 2020, leaving hardstyle behind in search of something that felt like ‘home,’ drawing inspiration from the open space between, and beyond, techno.
We are presenting ‘Unit33’.
