PREMIERE: Friedrich Raphael – Baiser

Friedrich Raphael debuts on toucan sounds with the ‘Ancient Artifacts’ EP.

New York’s toucan sounds calls in Friedrich Raphael for the ‘Ancient Artifacts’ EP, starting with ‘Fondante’, which features label boss Robert PM and boasts deliciously funky bass, cut-up vocal harmonies and soothing trumpet hits. Raphael’s ‘Baiser’ then comes in with whimsical melody riffs accompanied by guitar licks before the breakbeats of ‘Canelé’ closes out the EP with gorgeous chord stabs and more layered disco-house soundscapes.

Berlin artist Friedrich Raphael has been part of the German capital’s house and disco scene since 2016. Since then, he’s had releases on theBasement Discos and Petra Recordings, joining Brooklyn’s toucan sounds with the ‘Ancient Artifacts’ EP next. Raphael’s style combines elements of funk and jazz, always melodic and tropical, which has landed him gigs at notable clubs like Griessmuehle, About Blank, Watergate and more.

‘Ancient Artifacts’ by Friedrich Raphael drops on toucan sounds on digital and tape on the 27th of September following releases from label member Haruka Salt and Paurro & Steven Klavier’s P3rf3ct Strang3rs alias, as well as a remix EP of Purple Disco Machine & Pink Flamingo Rhythm Revue’s ‘Money Money’ by Yam Who? and toucan sounds’ Robert PM, who features on Raphael’s newest EP.
