Neil Diablo, La Mano, and This Is Jude team up for the shimmering single ‘Mystery Star’ on Sound Du Jour, with remixes from Jordan Nocturne and Man Power.
Gelato consists of Neil Diablo and Sound Du Jour label head La Mano. Their ‘Mystery Star’ in collaboration with London-via-Ibiza vocalist and live performer This Is Jude, releasing on the label in November, is a nu-disco cut with balmy pads and supple arps coursing through the mix. The steamy vocal brings soul and intimacy as the heavy groove locks dancers into a zoned-out reverie of cosmic delight. After the more stripped-back instrumental mix come two remixes from globetrotting DJ and producer Jordan Nocturne, who runs the Nocturne and The Night Institute labels and offers up authentic visions for future club music. His remix is low-slung and raw thanks to the rugged bass line that is layered beneath bright, acidic motifs and a squelchy lead that brings great character to this strident cut. The dub mix pairs things back a little and ups the low end in style.
Fresh off his recent Essential Mix, UK mainstay Man Power is a famously versatile artist who can lay down dark disco, thrilling techno, and plenty in between, all with oodles of individual style on his own Me Me Me as well as Freeride Millenium and Rekids. His ‘Shine On (And On)’ remix is a dramatic rework with plenty of tumbling drums and a rising sense of tension while the original vocals soar up top next to sustained pads that get dancers lost in the moment. It’s a serene world with infectious claps, sleek synth lines and a heavenly vocal feel that will bring moments of real emotion to the dancefloor, cut to a shorter version via Man Power’s ‘Half As Long Twice As Bright’ remix.
Gelato is a duo consisting of Neil Diablo, a crate-digging DJ and producer who releases tropical mixtapes that take in Afro and sub-tropical disco. He ran the legendary El Diablo’s Social Club in Manchester and its associated label and has played all over the world while releasing on the likes of Is It Balearic? and Futureboogie. Diablo collaborates with Sound Du Jour label boss La Mano, who has dropped heat on labels like Nightcolours and Tusk Wax and recently released his ‘Fabricca’ EP on his imprint, which won support from Moscoman, TEED, Chloé, Curses, and more.
