PREMIERE: Massi Rocket – Balia

Milan’s underground powerhouse Massi Rocket lands on his own Motel Calypso Records with ‘Baila’ EP. Two new tech house tracks, ‘Baila’ and ‘Everybodies’, show both sides of his sound – one sensual and warm, the other raw and reflective.

Massi Rocket is a key driver of the Milanese scene on many fronts. He owns the city’s iconic Rocket Club, which has always been at the forefront with international bookings and platforming local talent. It’s a close community where he hosts his legendary tech house night Motel Calypso, which also gave birth to this label. His sound spans a spectrum from deep and minimal to tech, and he has previously released on the likes of Spinnin’ Records and MIAW, while his tune ‘That Way’ on Lapsus Music was famously played by Marco Carola B2B Jamie Jones at the legendary Cocoricò club.

Opener ‘Baila’ is a heavy, percussive house jam featuring a sensual Spanish vocal that conveys plenty with its warmth and sense of danger. “I didn’t want to polish it too much,” Says Massi. “I imagined a smoky dancefloor somewhere in Barcelona, lights low, bodies moving slow but sure, and I built the track around that image. ” The percussion follows over an insistent groove and punchy bass for a full body workout.

The equally brilliant ‘Everybodies’ is different, rougher, more restless. A male voice beams in with an urgent mantra before getting broken, chopped and smeared into the mix. It’s a loopy, bouncy jam that lodges deep in your brain. “I wanted it to feel like a looped thought you can’t get out of your head”, says Massi. “Something anonymous but familiar. It is sure to cause real dancefloor carnage.”

We are presenting the title track ‘Baila’.

‘Baila’ EP will be available after July 25th HERE.
