Haruka Salt teams up with Din. and DONIS for earworm lo-fi house single ‘Watch Me Dance’.
Haruka Salt is one of Brooklyn’s most versatile, seasoned, and in-demand DJs. She mixes up disco, hip hop, electro, techno and house from across the ages, always with a cutting-edge perspective. She is through and through part of the toucan sounds family, with multiple quality releases assigned to the label together with artists like Fat Tony, Tongji and Toribio.
She is joined by collaborator, fellow New York DJ and classically trained violinist Din. who provides the single with its blissful vocals. While this is their debut release, they have been an active member of the local scene. Din., alongside Haruka, embodies the sound of the NYC underground, where they’ve played clubs like Knockdown Center, Bossa Nova Civic Club and Mood Ring, as well as iconic parties like Fourth World.
‘Watch Me Dance’ is a brilliantly warm and vibey house cut run through with humid and heart-melting chords, and subtle spoken word motifs that bring the soul and plenty of attitude. Fellow Brooklynite DONIS then remixes the track. The Nowadays resident transforms the original’s fresh and dynamic drum programming through minimal and dubby sonics. His remix draws on those styles with smooth drums and a bassline that pumps the groove and builds a sensual atmosphere.
‘Watch Me Dance’ is another fine statement from the toucan sounds crew, and it’s one that shows the Brooklyn underground is in good hands.
