Los Angeles’ Akumen drops four tasteful house cuts on ‘Natural State’ EP on Fortune Signal, featuring remixes from Byron The Aquarius and label co-founder D.D. Curry.
Akumen is a DJ, producer, and deep-digging record collector who has been involved in his local LA scene for several years. He runs his own house night and radio show, Made to Move, and brings plenty of invention to his brand of house and techno. He last appeared on New York’s Fortune Signal label in 2022 with the ‘Embrace’ EP and has picked up support from Meg Ward, Franky Rizardo, Joyce Muniz, and Holly Lester.
The ‘Natural State’ EP by Akumen on Fortune Signal opens with ‘Let It Roll,’ a carefree and easy-to-groove UKG-style house track with playful stabs moving up and down the scales. Then comes the fun, lighthearted sound of ‘I Need You,’ featuring a funky bassline and lush chords that will get any party going.
Akumen’s ‘My Natural State’ mixes sci-fi sounds, molten acid, and melancholic pads while channelling an early Chicago house sound with its cowbells and raw drums. It is followed closely by Timecrunch, a hypnotic offering with chords that have layered heights and vocals that hurry you along for the ride.
Keyboard-playing master, deep house don, and respected US talent Byron The Aquarius brings his own sense of musicality and jazzy chord work to his classy remix of ‘I Need You’. Last of all, label co-founder D.D. Curry makes his remixing debut on Fortune Signal with a jacked rework of ‘Timecrunch’ that taps into timeless 90s house and dubby atmospherics.
We are presenting the fourth track ‘Timecrunch’.
‘Natural State’ EP will be available after the 3rd of May HERE.
